Abstract:

Claude Shannon in his groundbreaking work gave us the quantitative approach of
understanding information and its flow through classical communication channels. Landauer took
this understanding in a different direction and thereby unravelling something very profound about
information which is the physicality of the information. He aptly expressed it as “Information is
physical”. Following the next logical step, it was established by physicists that information has
quantum physical aspects. In my talk, I will focus on the quantum nature of information and show
that how quantum nature of information gives us practically more efficient ways of information
processing and communications over both classical and quantum channels.

Rukhsan Ul Haq is currently working as Quantum Computation Scientist with IBM
Quantum. He got his Ph.D in quantum many-body physics where he specially focused on quantum
computing applications. He has been collaborating with the international experts of quantum
computation and has already made some important contributions to the field. He has more than a
decade of research experience in quantum physics and quantum computing. One of the
mathematical methods which he developed during his Ph.D is now part of IBM’s Qiskit textbook
which is a university level textbook for quantum computation.
