Biography:
Education:
• B.Tech. (Hons.) in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, 1985.
• M.S. in Electrical Engineering, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, 1986.
• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Caltech, USA, 1990.

Career:
• Joined the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru in 1990.
• Served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE) from 1990–2002.
• Established the Visual Communication Lab at IISc.
• Joined Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2002 as Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Research Area:
• Signal Processing – Advanced techniques for analyzing and processing signals.
• Visual Communication – Research on image and video communication systems.
• Multimedia Systems – Design and optimization of multimedia applications.
• Data Compression – Algorithms for efficient storage and transmission of data.
• Electrical and Electronic Engineering – Broad applications in circuit design and communications.

Awards and recognitions/ Positions held:
• INAE Young Engineer Award, 1998.
• DST (Govt. of India) BOYSCAST Fellowship, 1997.
