Biography:
Prof. D. N. Bose is an eminent scientist in semiconductor physics and photonics, with a distinguished career spanning academia, research, and administration. He has contributed significantly to the fields of semiconductor materials, amorphous semiconductors, microwave devices, and photonics.

Personal life and education:
• Obtained M.Sc. (Tech) in Radiophysics and Electronics from the University of Calcutta.
• Awarded an ICI (India) Technical Scholarship.
• Completed Ph.D. in Semiconductor Physics at the University of Reading, U.K. (1961–1965).

Career:

• Research Associate, Materials Research Laboratory, Penn State University (1966–1970)
  Worked on Radiation Dosimetry and Ferroelectrics.
• Assistant/Associate Professor, ECE Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (1970–1977)
  Research on Amorphous Semiconductors and YIG Microwave Devices.
• Professor, Materials Science Centre, IIT Kharagpur (1977–1998)
  
  • Served as Dean, Faculty & Planning (1989–1991)
  • Principal Investigator for 10 major research projects including the National project on Semiconductor Lasers
  • Coordinator, Photonics Mission, IIT Kharagpur (1989–1996)
