Biography:
V. U. Reddy was a distinguished academic and researcher in signal processing and communications. He completed his B.E in Telecommunication from Osmania University in 1962, followed by an M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1963, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri Columbia in 1971.

Career:
He began his career as a Senior Research Fellow at IIT Kharagpur (1963–1965), and later served as Lecturer at Osmania University (1965–1967). He worked internationally as a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories, New Jersey (1970–1971), and as faculty at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago (1971–1972). In India, he held positions as Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (1972–1976), Professor at IIT Kharagpur (1976–1979), Visiting Professor at Stanford University (1979–1982), and Professor at Osmania University (1982–1988). He joined Indian Institute of Science on 28 March 1988 as a Professor and served until his retirement on 31 August 2001. During this period, he played a key role in establishing the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Signal Processing (CRISP), initiating the Bangalore chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and founding the biennial SPCOM conference series which has become one of the best national conferences in the are of signal processing and Communication. He was also associated with the Research and Training Unit for Navigational Electronics (NERTU), Hyderabad.
