Welcome to Fiber Lasers and Applications Research (FLARe) Lab at ECE department of IISc Bengaluru. Our research aims to design, analyze and develop advanced fiber laser systems targeted for Biomedical Imaging, Optical quantum technologies, directed energy and communications applications. The work involves theoretical, numerical design and analysis, experimental implementation, and testing and characterization of these advanced laser systems. For more details, click on research page

Anitta Augustine joined our group as Project Associate on 14th Oct 2024. Welcome Anitta! Dr Balaswamy gave an invited talk on “Low intensity noise, continuous wave supercontinuum generation in standard telecom optical fibers”, at SCOPE, PRL Ahmedabad on 26th September 2024. Dr Balaswamy gave a presentation on Tunable and broadband Fiber lasers at Siddaganga Institute of Technology (SIT), Tumukur on 21st Sept 2024. Dr Balaswamy gave a tutorial course on optical communications at BEL, Bengaluru on 12th Sept 2024. Diya Govind joined our group as a Project Associate on 9th Sept 2024. Welcome Diya! Dr Balaswamy gave a presentation on “Spectral and temporal properties of Fiber Lasers based on nonlinear effects” at International School Of Photonics, CUSAT, in Kochi, Kerala on 23rd August 2024. Prof Srikanth Sugavanam from IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has visited our lab during summer school on Optics and Photonics in July 2024 Yogesh NL joined our group as Project Assistant on 1st April 2024. Dr Balaswamy presented research work on “low noise CW supercontinuum generation in Standard Telecom fibers” at SPIE Photonics West, San Francisco in Jan 2024 Shantanu and Meher joined as 1st PhD students on 1st August 2023 in our group. Raj Kumar Hudda presented his research work on “Intensity Noise Characteristics of Continuous Wave Supercontinuum Generated in Standard Optical Fiber Pumped With High Power Yb Fiber Lasers” at Photonics 2023, IISc in July 2023
