Rajiv Soundararajan,(Assistant Professor, ECE) and his collaborators Anish Mittal and Prof. Al Bovik have received the 2017 IEEE Signal Processing Letters Best Paper Award for their paper, "Making a "Completely Blind" Image Quality Quality Analyzer" published in IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Volume 20, No. 3, March 2013. The paper devises a method to assess the perceptual quality of distorted images without the need for any training on human rated distorted images.

The award will be presented at the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP) in Calgary, Canada. Through this award, the IEEE Signal Processing Society "honors the authors of a letter article of exceptional merit and broad interest on a subject related to the Society's technical scope and appearing in the IEEE Signal Processing Letters."

Rajiv Soundararajan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore since 2015. He graduated with a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, USA in 2012. Between 2012 and 2015, he was with Qualcomm Research India, Bangalore. In 2016, he received the IEEE Circuits and Systems for Video Technology Best Paper Award. His research interests are broadly in image and video signal processing, computer vision, machine learning and information theory.
